Community Development Financial Institution
(CDFI)
In January 2000, the US Treasury certified CASA a Community
Development Financial Institution. CASA subsequently received a
$505,000 award from the Treasury to help fund its CDFI. The award
supplements a small pool of predevelopment dollars CASA loans to
affordable housing and community facilities projects throughout the
rural Northwest.
Developers and sponsors of affordable housing and community
facilities projects can apply for up to $200,000 in predevelopment
financing. The funds can be used for such costs as architectural and
engineering fees, legal fees, environmental impact studies, appraisals
and land acquisition. Funds will be loaned to eligible borrowers at 5%
interest per annum with no fees.
To date, CASA’s predevelopment loan fund, has contributed to the
construction of more than 500 units of farmworker housing, leveraging
over $30 million in private and public funds.
CASA’s future CDFI goals include; growing our pool of loan funds,
